Thus, remarked Dr. Mark “Dean” Haywood, Assistant Professor of Bible Exposition at Grace School of Theology and Pastor at God’s Household of Faith, who was the guest lecturer during the Biblical Hermeneutics Seminar held from March 29 to 31 at the Grace Asia Inc. Participants from different local churches were given the opportunity to hear, ask questions and learn from Dr. Haywood as he discussed principal issues and elements on the art and science of interpreting the Bible.
“Hermeneutics, as commonly defined is the art and science of interpretation using the tools of exegesis to determine the meaning…We seek the ancient meaning of the text and apply God’s Word to our contemporary context (application),” says Dr. Haywood.

The three-day seminar was a free resource provided by Grace Asia to introduce more Christian leaders and ministers to effective and grace-centered Biblical education and training. Furthermore, as biblical interpretation remains a core topic in the proper understanding and application of the Bible, Grace hopes to encourage believers to be more involved in hermeneutics. As a starting point, Dr. Haywood strongly recommended to “read one book of the Bible in one sitting. It is a must.
